Electric motors

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, In : Science

Electric motors are everywhere! In your house, almost every mechanical movement that you see around you is caused by an AC or DC electric motor. By understanding how a motor works you can learn a lot about magnets, electromagnets and electricity in general. On this page we hope you will learn what makes an electric motor spin.

An electric motor is all about magnets and magnetism.  A motor uses magnets to create motion.  If you have ever played with magnets you know the law of magnets:...

Generators

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, In : Science

    A simple
generatoris similar to an electric motor.
With a motor, we put electrical energy in and get
rotational energyout,
with a generator we put rotational energy in and get electrical energy out.

As with the
motor, the current direction changes
with each half turn of the generator.
The generator produces
alternating current
because slip rings are used in place of a split - ring commutator.

Skeleton system

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Monday, December 21, 2009, In : Health Education

Skeletons
can be divided into two main types based on the relative position of the skeletal tissues. When these tissues are located external to the soft parts, the animal is said to have an exoskeleton. If they occur deep within the body, they form an endoskeleton. All vertebrate animals possess an endoskeleton, but most also have components that are exoskeletal in origin. Invertebrate skeletons, however, show far more variation in position, morphology, and materials used to construct t...

Plant cell

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Sunday, December 20, 2009, In : Science

Plant cells are cells that are in plants. Plant cells are like animal cells, but they have a cell wall and chloroplasts. Here's a labeled picture of a plant cell. You will see all the main parts of the cell. Listed below are definitions of those words. Read on to learn more about photosynthesis.

A very special process that takes place inside of the chloroplasts in plant cells is called photosynthesis (foto-SIN-thi-sis). Photo means "light" and synthesis means " putting things togeth...

Trigonometry

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Sunday, December 20, 2009, In : Mathematics

The trigonometric functions (also called circular functions) are functions of an angle. They are used to relate the angles of a triangle to the lengths of the sides of a triangle. Trigonometric functions are important in the study of triangles and modeling periodic phenomena, among many other applications.

The most familiar trigonometric functions are the sine, cosine, and tangent. The sine function takes an angle and tells the length of the y-component (rise) of that triangle. The cos...

Animal cell

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Sunday, December 20, 2009, In : Science

Animal cells are typical of the eukaryotic cell, enclosed by a plasma membrane and containing a membrane-bound nucleus and organelles. Unlike the eukaryotic cells of plants and fungi, animal cells do not have a cell wall. This feature was lost in the distant past by the single-celled organisms that gave rise to the kingdom Animalia. Most cells, both animal and plant, range in size between 1 and 100 micrometers and are thus visible only with the aid of a microscope.

The lack of a rig...

Digestive system

The Digestive Process
:

The start of the process - the mouth: The digestive process begins in the mouth. Food is partly broken down by the process of chewing and by the chemical action of salivary enzymes (these enzymes are produced by the salivary glands and break down starches into smaller molecules).

On the way to the stomach: the esophagus - After being chewed and swallowed, the food enters the esophagus. The esophagus is a long tube that runs from the mouth to the stomach. It uses rh...

The four noble truth

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Sunday, December 20, 2009, In : Social Studies

1. The Noble Truth of Suffering

Besides "suffering," other translations of the Pali word dukkha include unsatisfactoriness, dis-ease, and instability. All these words   point to the fact that no conditioned phenomenon can provide true   (lasting) happiness in our lives. The first step in a spiritual life is to
look very closely and honestly at our experience of life and see that   there is suffering. We tend to overlook or ignore or just blindly react to   the unpleasant, so it continuall...

Exponentail Function

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Sunday, December 20, 2009, In : Mathematics
The exponential function is the functionex, where e is the number (approximately 2.718281828) such that the function ex equals its own derivative. The exponential function is used to model phenomena when a constant change in the independent variable gives the same proportional change (increase or decrease) in the dependent variable. The exponential function is also often written as exp(x), especially when x is an expression complicated enough to make typesetting it as an exponent unwieldy...

Respiratory system

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Monday, December 14, 2009, In : Health Education

The respiratory system's function is to allow gas exchange to all parts of the body. The space between the alveoli and the capillaries, the anatomy or structure of the exchange system, and the precise physiological uses of the exchanged gases vary depending on the organism. In humans and other mammals, for example, the anatomical features of the respiratory system include airways, lungs, and the respiratory muscles. Molecules of oxygen and carbon dioxide are passively exchanged, by diffusion,...

Chromosome

Posted by Wisansaya Meepojana on Monday, December 14, 2009, In : Science

A chromosome is an organized structure of DNA and protein that is found in cells. It is a single piece of coiled DNA containing many genes, regulatory elements and other nucleotide sequences. Chromosomes also contain DNA-bound proteins, which serve to package the DNA and control its functions. The word chromosome comes from the Greek (chroma, color) and  soma (body) due to their property of being very strongly stained by particular dyes.

Chromosomes vary widely between different or...
